Australian Soil Lab Joint Venture
Australian Soil Analysis Laboratory enters into Joint Venture in Henan
A joint venture in soil analysis between an Australia company FLC and the Kai Feng Xian has been established and will begin operating shortly. Principals Mr Bryan McLeod and Mr Simon Cope from the Australian company are in Kaifeng overseeing the establishment. This venture brings overseas technology to help the local farmers.
Many laboratories analyse for the major elements in soil, Phosphorus, Nitrogen and Potassium, which are all essential elements. The new laboratory will analyse 12 essential minerals both major and minor and establish the balance of major elements in a soil.
The exporting of many crops from China has been inhibited by poor quality and shelf life, both of which are a direct result of soil nutritional balance. By changing that balance we can change the soil's structure and improve the quality of cereals, fruit and vegetables. Soil analysis is essential to allow farmers the opportunity to capitalise from their labour. Difficult soils such as high sodium soils, poorly drained soils and high magnesium soils all limit agricultural production. However by using the FLC approach and technology and changing the chemical make-up of these soils, we can improve both the structure and microbial content correcting the majority of problems.
FLC also brings with them a number of experienced agricultural consultants specialising in all types agriculture and land reclamation, including, cropping, fruit production, vegetable production, tree establishment, city developments in parks and reserves, animal health and dairying.
FLC has initiated wheat trials which will be followed by trials of both cotton and corn. Mr McLeod formulated a special fertiliser based on soil samples that were analysed at the Australian laboratory. This formulation is being used for these trials. To date the results look very promising, especially because urea applications on the trial areas have been lower than local practice.
